Eagle Scout Project: Parish Footbridge | William Bedall, Troop 737 May 2026
Thank you, William, for your hard work and dedication!
We are grateful that you chose to replace our parish footbridge for your Eagle Scout Project! Through your commitment and leadership, you have restored a part of our campus that is enjoyed by many and demonstrated the true spirit of service.
From William Bedall The idea of replacing the footbridge came through a discussion I had with Deacon Greg Moczygemba, while we were working together on the Pope Pius XII religious award in fall of 2025. I then contacted the Buildings & Grounds Committee who had me work with Mr. Walter Turnage.
My father and I assessed the existing bridge condition and determined it needed to be fully replaced. I then created a plan to replace the bridge in kind then created blueprints, which were submitted to the committee for approval in September 2025.
Once the Building & Ground Committee approved the project, I began to work on funding. I spoke with the Knights of Columbus, who generously offered monetary support. I also secured funding, materials donations, and discounts from several area businesses: Karn Custom Woodwork, Siewers Lumber, and Lowe's Home Improvement (Brook Road).
I set my project implementation date for May 16 and gathered a team of scouts, scouters, and Knights of Columbus members. Together, we removed the old bridge, constructed the new one, made repairs to the handrailing of the other bridge, then transported any discarded lumber and building materials to the county landfill.
The previous bridge was an Eagle Scout Project from 2004. I am optimistic that this new bridge will provide utility to the parish and the local community so parishioners and guests can enjoy the lakeside path by taking walks, riding bikes, and fishing.
I appreciate all the help I received from members of the parish, my scout troop, and local businesses. This project would not have been possible without their support. First Photo: William Bedall

Scouting at St. Michael Parish
The Scouting Program at St. Michael Parish is more than just an activity for our youth to learn about the outdoors. Scouting provides fun, fellowship, and training to our youth that flows into our parish community and beyond. It emphasizes honesty, self reliance, and respect, and it affects character, citizenship, and personal fitness. Nonetheless, the success of our Scouting depends on our volunteers--those who serve in a variety of leadership roles to enable our young people to benefit from a robust Scouting ministry.
I have always supported Scouting at St. Michael Parish. It teaches values consistent with our beliefs and does so acknowledging the importance of Faith. This weekend, we celebrate with our Scouts! (Fr. Dan | Scout Sunday 2020)
Volunteers
Adult volunteers will need to be trained by both the Scouting organization and the diocesan requirements for working with minors.
