Suicide in the Catholic Church has a difficult history. Understanding the complexities and difficulties of those faced with suicidal thoughts is the key to new beginnings. We are not condemned. The Church has grown in her knowledge and felt with mercy the pain and immense physical, mental, and spiritual torment faced by those contemplating their life's worth.
Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide. (CCC 2282)
