News Flash
2026 contribution changes are coming from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Are you one who doesn't itemize your tax return?
Claim on your 2026 tax return a charitable contribution up to $1,000 for single filers or $2,000 for married filing joint.
Are you one who itemizes your tax return?
Make a charitable contribution giving plan, because changes in 2026 are coming! In 2026, only a portion of charitable contributions that exceed 0.5% of adjusted gross income (AGI) will be deductible. This means that in 2026 a formerly fully deductible charitable contribution now must be reduced by 0.5% of AGI for the tax year. Also, keep in mind that for 2026, there is a cap for itemized charitable donations of 35% for those in the 37% marginal tax bracket. Consult your tax advisor to strategize what works best for you in 2025 and beyond.
Traditional Giving Opportunities
Online Giving
Using St. Michael Parish's WeShare Giving platform is easy! Give once or, better yet, set up recurring giving.
Write a check or drop cash in the collection using an envelope. Please call the Parish Office (804-527-1037) if you wish to receive envelopes.
Online Banking Bill Pay
Set up a recurring payment to our parish from your online banking bill payment account. You can establish a payment to St. Michael Parish just as you would for any other payment.
Employee Matching Gifts
Does your employer have a matching gift program that permits churches to be a beneficiary? Explore your employer options.
Use your IRA to donate. Consider a Qualified Charitable Donation (QCD) to fulfill your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). You potentially could minimize any increased tax liability if you took the distribution as income, reduce the balance in an IRA to lower future RMDs, and give a larger gift, because AGI limits are not in effect for a QCD.
Donate securities to charities like our parish, and you usually can take a tax deduction at the fair market value up to the amount allowed by the IRS. In addition, you may not have to pay the capital gains taxes you typically would pay if you sold the stock and then donated it. St. Michael Parish works with Davenport & Company to make this happen.
Establish and use a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) for your charitable giving and designate St. Michael Parish as one of your charitable beneficiaries.
Bunching
Explore what your donating impact would be to bunch your 2025 and future years donations together in 2025. This might just be the boost needed to help with upcoming 2026 charitable donation rule changes for itemized tax return filers.
